Litter makes its way into our waterways and nearby valleys through various means, including windy garbage/recycling days, accidental pocket drops, and the intentionally disrespectful behaviour of some drivers, shoppers, hikers, walkers, and anglers. This litter affects water quality, harms and kills aquatic life, contaminates and moves up the food chain, and is unsightly.
Join us to kick off Earth Week and give back by collecting trash along Duffins Creek. Healthy habitats produce healthy fish!
Date/Time: April 26th, 1 pm – 3 pm
Location: 1565 Winville Road, Pickering (parking available on the road)
To register or obtain more information: please contact ben_teskey@ofah.org . These events will also include brief education on ecosystem health and its relationship to the extirpation and restoration of Lake Ontario's Atlantic Salmon.

Acts of stewardship are a way of giving back to the world that provides for us. Picking up a bit of garbage not only helps beautify the landscape but also helps set a baseline for others to follow, resulting in less litter being intentionally left. Stewardship is also good for the human spirit. People feel good about contributing to something positive, and in a group setting, this positive feeling is intensified. Smiling, laughing, and forming new friendships are just a few of the side effects!
